Sunday 14th January – walk **** Woodbridge waterfront – cloudy

We are off to the mountains then Spain on Monday week so I was keen to pick up a sail that Ton Alexander is selling in Woodbridge so I can take it. Although Tom was at work we arrange to pick it up from his wife who live in a lovely little Mews in Woodbridge. We soon arrive in Woodbridge buy the Tushingham Storm 5.25, I know that’s tiny for me but I might use it a couyple of times of year if I am lucky! We leave the van in Tom’s parking spot and walk the short distance to the River Deben having first to cross the railway line just before a train comes, this is a dodgey crossing with no lights or gates that lock!
You come out by the picterisque River right by the Sailing club, turn left and head up river towards the Tide Mill. The tide is very low and I ignore the keep off sign and walk out on a jetty to take some pics. There are loads of house boats along this stretch all high and dry with some even sitting level!
We take a small detour to see the Mill before continuing along the path towards Wilford Bridge. There some lovely houseboats and small cottages along here too and the mud is covered with all sorts of feeding waders. We deturb a bright Kingfisher from a small sluice and the with the light fading we turn before Wilford and head back taking some pics as the sun comes out briefly before it sets. We bump into old windsurfing fried Martin Hubbard out for a walk then it’s back to the van and home for a well deserved cream tea with clotted cream too:)
So a successful trip, top sail bought and a top 2 hour walk covering about 3 miles. Might get a sail tomorrow if it dosen’t rain too hard!
